At Monday’s General Assembly Meeting in Cannes, the members of European Film Promotion (EFP) have welcomed the Association of Filmmakers of Bosnia and Herzegovina as a new member organisation of the EFP network. Cannes Film Festival is taking place from 13 to 24 May 2015.

With such acclaimed filmmakers as Jasmila Žbanić (Grbavica; Love Island) and Danis Tanovíc (No Man’s Land; An Episode Of An Iron Picker) and the Sarajevo Film Festival, Bosnia and Herzegovina has repeatedly confirmed its reputation as a vibrant country in the European film industry, said EFP in a statement.

The EFP network is financially supported by its member organisations and Creative Europe – MEDIA Programme of the European Union.

We are very excited about joining the EFP family” states Elma Tataragić, General Secretary and representative at EFP. “Bosnia and Herzegovina will both contribute and benefit from this membership as we have a small, but rather mature film industry. It will be great to use the EFP platforms for the promotion of our upcoming talents and films.”

The Association of Filmmakers of Bosnia and Herzegovina was founded in 1950 and gathers film professionals from the various fields of filmmaking. It has the mandate to develop and guide the national film industry with, at present, 22 production companies producing about 15 documentaries and feature films per year.

Moreover, it supports the promotion of national cinema abroad and selects the candidate for the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences Awards. Annual projects of the Association also include the Film Festival of Cinema of Bosnia and Herzegovina (part of Sarajevo Film Festival) and a competitive student film festival.

The Sarajevo Film Festival is the leading film event in the region and puts a special focus on films, talent and future projects from the South East of Europe. Apart from the high quality programming, it has a strong industry segment as well as an educational and networking platform for young filmmakers, according to EFP.
