KARO, one of Russia’s leading cinema chains, launched its 22-screen, next-generation megaplex in Moscow’s VEGAS Crocus City shopping mall.

Claimed to be the largest and the most advanced movie theatre in Russia, KARO Vegas 22, will hold a grand opening ceremony with world-famous film makers and stars in September.

KARO Vegas 22 is part of the cinema chain’s large-scale $150m investment program to modernize existing cinemas and build new movie theatres in Russia over 2014 and 2015. “This is one of the most significant investments in the Russian film industry to date,” says the company.

The screening halls of the new venue using “LUXE: A RealD Experience” combine hi-tech innovations in cinema. According to the company, they provide first-class movie screening standards in halls with large screens, super bright 2D- and 3D-picture, virtual surround sound and luxurious seats.

The premier LUXE screening hall has wide screen (over 21 meters) and can seat around 500 people. Each LUXE screening hall is equipped with a ‘Barco Auro’ sound system which creates a realistic and immersive experience of the onscreen action. All of this guarantees a one-of-a-kind, quality movie-going experience for the audience, suggests the company.

The average cost of building one screening hall of the venue in the most modern multiplexes is around $1m. The investment per screen, according to the company, was slightly higher for KARO Vegas 22 due to many technological and design features throughout the venue.

“Our ‘KARO Vegas 22’ is the most ambitious, large-scale and technically advanced cinema of the modern Russian era, and represents our strong financial commitment to the overall growth of the Russian film market. For the ‘Vegas 22’ project we reimagined every aspect of the film-going experience, taking into account the increased expectations of our patrons, in regard to many technical advances presented by the digital age,” said Paul Heth, CEO of KARO.

KARO Vegas 22 is the chain’s 30th movie theatre. It has 4477 seats and takes up over 18,000 square meters, making it the biggest ever movie theater in Russia and one of the largest cinemas in Europe, says the company.

In December, the chain plans to open KARO Sky 17 in the Avia Park shopping mall in Moscow.
