Studiocanal to Distribute Lionsgate Feature Films in Europe

Leading entertainment content company Lionsgate (NYSE: LGF) has expanded its partnership with European media player Studiocanal for the distribution of Lionsgate feature films in Germany, Austria and Switzerland, the two companies announced today, July 7.

The announcement was made by Studiocanal CEO & chairman Olivier Courson, Studiocanal Germany CEO Rodolphe Buet and Lionsgate Motion Picture Group co-chairs Patrick Wachsberger and Rob Friedman and Lionsgate International COO Andrew Kramer.

The new output deal with Studiocanal will launch an upcoming film slate that encompasses the next two installments of the global blockbuster Hunger Games franchise, The Hunger Games: Mockingjay — Parts 1 & 2, starring Academy Award winner Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth and Woody Harrelson; the action comedy Mortdecai, starring Johnny Depp, Gwyneth Paltrow and Ewan McGregor; and the live action Power Rangers franchise.

Mockingjay 1 will usher in the new deal with its November 20, 2014 release in Germany.

Lionsgate’s feature film slate will also be the centerpiece of Studiocanal Germany’s new multiyear agreement with the ProSiebenSat.1 Group under which ProSieben has licensed exclusive TV rights to Lionsgate feature films for its free TV channels in Germany, Austria and German-speaking Switzerland.

The agreement was negotiated by Studiocanal EVP Business & Legal Affairs Alexandra Bauermeister and Lionsgate EVP International Business & Legal Affairs Maitreya Yasuda.

Studiocanal is a subsidiary of the CANAL+ Group. It is one of Europe’s leading companies in the market for co-production, acquisition, distribution and sale of international feature films.
