The creative landscape of London is set for a significant boost as the BBC announces a comprehensive partnership with South by Southwest (SXSW) London for the 2026 festival. Scheduled to take over Shoreditch from June 1 to June 6, 2026, the festival will serve as a global stage for the convergence of media, technology, and culture.

Championing New Talent and Diverse Voices: Central to the BBC’s participation are live music showcases designed to elevate underrepresented and emerging artists. On Wednesday, June 3, the BBC Asian Network will host a showcase at Rich Mix featuring Maharani, Sonna Rele, Taal Haus, and Abdullah Maharvi. This will be followed on Thursday, June 4, by BBC Introducing, the corporation’s flagship initiative for unsigned talent, hosting a special event at the same venue to connect new creative voices with global audiences.

The BBC has consistently been at the forefront of that intersection… bringing the world to the UK, and the UK to the world, aligns closely with how we see SXSW London.

— Katy Arnander, Chief Programming Officer at SXSW London

Journalism and Global Perspectives: In an era of digital uncertainty, the partnership will also focus on the integrity of information. Fiona Crack, Interim Global Director of BBC News, will lead a fireside conversation regarding the essential role of the BBC World Service and the importance of verification tools in modern journalism. This alignment reflects SXSW London’s position as a platform where global ideas meet local influence.

We have a shared commitment to creativity and innovation, and I look forward to working together on a number of exciting events.

— Tove Okunniwa, Group Partnerships Director at the BBC

Innovation and Immersive Brand Presence: Beyond live performances and talks, BBC Studios will establish a major presence at the SXSW London Expo. Fans can expect a TARDIS activation celebrating the global impact of iconic brands like Doctor Who and Bluey. Additionally, digital leaders will host roundtable discussions exploring the “creator economy” and how nostalgia is being used by fans and creators to reimagine heritage brands for a new generation.

This partnership underscores a shared commitment between the BBC and SXSW to foster innovation and showcase British storytelling on an international stage.
