Disney Dominates Global Box Office as ‘Avatar: Fire and Ash’ Crosses $1.3 Billion Milestone

As the January corridor continues, the industry remains focused on whether these holiday holdovers can maintain their momentum against the next wave of late-winter releases.

LOS ANGELES — The global box office for the weekend ending January 18, 2026, continues to be defined by the staying power of major franchises and the arrival of highly anticipated sequels. According to the latest estimates from Comscore, Disney is maintaining a firm grip on the market, with two of its tentpole releases occupying top positions on the worldwide charts.

Avatar and Zootopia Lead the Pack

James Cameron’s Avatar: Fire and Ash remained the number one film globally, earning $57.82 million over the weekend. The film continues to see massive support from overseas markets, with $44.5 million of its weekend total coming from 53 international territories. This latest haul pushes the film’s total worldwide cumulative earnings to an impressive $1.318 billion.

Not far behind is Zootopia 2, which continues its historic run. The animated sequel earned $33.06 million this weekend, bringing its staggering lifetime total to $1.703 billion. To date, the film has performed exceptionally well internationally, with a cumulative international total of over $1.31 billion compared to $390 million domestically.

Horror and Drama Make Their Mark

The weekend also saw the debut of 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple, which opened at the number four spot. The film secured $29.2 million worldwide in its opening frame, with a nearly even split between its $13 million domestic debut and $16.2 million from 61 international territories.

Meanwhile, The Housemaid held strong at the number two position. The film added $35.11 million to its coffers this weekend, bringing its total cumulative earnings to $245.7 million.

Mid-Tier Success and International Highlights

Several other films showed notable endurance in the top ten:

  • Marty Supreme (A24): This title is on the verge of crossing the $100 million mark, currently sitting at $99.56 million. Notably, the film is a domestic heavyweight, with nearly 80% of its revenue coming from the domestic market.
  • Mana ShankaraVaraprasad Garu: This production demonstrated significant international appeal, with $8.5 million of its $9.18 million weekend earnings coming from international territories.
  • Family and Action Favorites: The Spongebob Movie: Search for Squarepants has reached a cumulative total of $144.2 million, while the reboot of Anaconda has surpassed $121.3 million.

Rounding out the top ten were the literary adaptation Hamnet, with a cumulative total of $27.5 million, and the disaster sequel Greenland 2: Migration, which has earned $20.5 million to date.
