Paul Thomas Anderson’s ‘One Battle after Another’ Dominates 98th Academy Awards

The 98th Academy Awards took place on Sunday, March 15, 2026, at the Dolby Theatre at Ovation Hollywood, celebrating the cinematic achievements of 2025. The night belonged to Paul Thomas Anderson’s “One Battle after Another,” which claimed the evening’s top honor for Best Picture.

Paul Thomas Anderson also secured a win for Directing and was recognized for Writing (Adapted Screenplay). The film’s success extended throughout the ceremony, with Sean Penn winning Actor in a Supporting Role, and the production earning additional awards for Casting and Film Editing.

In the leading acting categories, Michael B. Jordan was named best Actor in a Leading Role for his performance in Sinners, while Jessie Buckley took home the Oscar for Actress in a Leading Role for Hamnet. Amy Madigan was honored as the year’s best Actress in a Supporting Role for her work in Weapons.

“Sinners” was another major presence at the ceremony. In addition to Jordan’s win, Ryan Coogler won for Writing (Original Screenplay), and the film received accolades for Cinematography (Autumn Durald Arkapaw) and Original Score (Ludwig Goransson).

Guillermo del Toro’s “Frankenstein” swept several craft categories, winning for Costume Design, Makeup and Hairstyling, and Production Design. Other technical winners included “Avatar: Fire and Ash” for Visual Effects and “F1” for Sound.

In the animation and international categories:

  • “KPop Demon Hunters” won Animated Feature Film, and its anthem “Golden” secured the Oscar for Original Song.
  • “Sentimental Value” (Norway) was named best International Feature Film.
  • “Mr. Nobody against Putin” triumphed as the year’s best Documentary Feature Film.
  • The Animated Short Film award went to “The Girl Who Cried Pearls,” while “The Singers” and “Two People Exchanging Saliva” tied for Live Action Short Film.
  • “All the Empty Rooms” took the prize for Documentary Short Film.
