Wizards of the Coast and Archetype Entertainment recently debuted a new trailer for their epic sci-fi roleplaying game, EXODUS, at The Game Awards. This forthcoming RPG franchise casts players as Jun Aslan, a hero embarking on a crucial journey across the universe to save a world on the verge of collapse.
Jun Aslan, despite his humble beginnings, carries the profound legacy of a revered Traveler dynasty. His unassuming origins hide a genetic heritage that grants him extraordinary powers and abilities unlike any other human. A core feature of the game is player agency, as fans will determine Jun’s ultimate identity and destiny through moral choices and conflicting agendas that will resonate across generations.
Chad Robertson, VP of Game Development at Archetype Entertainment, emphasized that EXODUS is a story focused on “humanity’s resilience and the heroism that can emerge in our darkest hours”. This journey of discovery will shape entire worlds both in the present and for future generations.
The trailer also provided another look at the enigmatic figure, C.C. Orlev, whose presence seems to guide Jun during pivotal moments. Though Orlev is a well-known name, very few know his true identity or what ultimately became of him. C.C. Orlev is brought to life by Academy Award winner Matthew McConaughey, marking his first-ever appearance in a video game. John Hight, President of Wizards of the Coast, noted that the game transports players to a distant future where technology is so advanced that humankind has reshaped itself to harness “godlike powers”.
In terms of gameplay, EXODUS is designed to offer players freedom in style, rewarding both stealth and open combat approaches equally. This empowers fans to tailor the experience to their preferences. As the story progresses, players will unlock new weapons and abilities, form vital bonds with companions, and discover combat synergies that enhance both the gameplay mechanics and the narrative.
Jun will not face the journey alone, meeting companions throughout EXODUS who possess unique secrets and motivations. These companion relationships are integral to the experience, bringing new lore, side stories, and quests that enrich the vast narrative universe.
EXODUS is being developed by Archetype Entertainment, an Austin-based studio established in 2019 as a division of Wizards of the Coast. Archetype is comprised of veteran developers from prestigious AAA RPG development studios, including BioWare and Naughty Dog. Wizards of the Coast, a division of Hasbro, develops and publishes legendary games, including MAGIC: THE GATHERING and DUNGEONS & DRAGONS. EXODUS is currently slated for release in early 2027.
