COPENHAGEN – Netflix has officially unveiled the teaser and first-look images for its highly anticipated sequel series, The Chestnut Man: Hide and Seek, which is set to launch globally on May 7, 2026. The standalone six-part series marks the return of the acclaimed Nordic Noir universe, reuniting fan-favorite detectives for a brand-new investigation.

A Twisted Game of Digital Stalking

The new installment centers on the disappearance of a 41-year-old woman. Upon investigating her digital footprint, police discover she had been stalked for months by an unidentified perpetrator playing an involuntary game of “hide and seek”. The killer’s methods include surveilling the victim and sending disturbing images, videos, and a seemingly innocent nursery rhyme-style counting song.

When the woman is eventually found murdered, detectives find evidence linking the crime to the unsolved killing of a 17-year-old student from two years prior. The series explores the mysterious connection between these victims and the terrifying question of when the perpetrator will begin their “game” again.

Returning Cast and Creative Team

Danica Curcic and Mikkel Boe Følsgaard return to lead the investigation as Naia Thulin and Mark Hess, though the sources indicate the relationship between the two remains complicated. The cast also includes Sofie Gråbøl and Katinka Lærke Petersen.

The series is based on the novel by Søren Sveistrup and was developed by main writers and creators Dorte W. Høgh and Emilie Lebech Kaae. Conceptual director Milad Alami, who directed alongside Roni Ezra, noted that the production focused on the “unpredictability” and “personal stakes” that define the best examples of the Nordic Noir genre.

Themes of Surveillance and Grief

According to the creators, the series delves into “families falling apart, about loss, grief, and, not least, powerlessness”. A central theme of the sequel is the modern reality of constant digital surveillance, depicting a world where “with our phone in hand, we are constantly being watched and can never truly hide”.

Produced by SAM Productions, The Chestnut Man: Hide and Seek will be available for streaming exclusively on Netflix starting this May.
