Netflix has officially announced that Season 2 of The Boyfriend, Japan’s first gay romance reality series, will premiere on January 13. Moving from the setting of the previous season, this new chapter takes place in Hokkaido, where participants will spend two months living together in a “snowy retreat” known as the Green Room.

The upcoming season features a diverse cast of ten men ranging in age from 20 to 40. In a push for international representation, the group includes participants from outside Japan, specifically from Thailand and Peru. Notable cast members include Kazuyuki, a 40-year-old looking for a new beginning after a 15-year relationship, and Bomi, a 23-year-old university student searching for his first boyfriend.

The men will bond while operating a peppermint-colored coffee truck, a returning element from the first season designed to foster shared stories and everyday connections. Early trailers tease a variety of emotional experiences, including unexpected reunions, first romances, and shared tears, all while studio hosts provide real-time reactions to the unfolding drama.

To accompany the emotional journeys of the cast, the Korean indie rock band Glen Check has returned to compose the theme song, titled “Bloom.” The series will be available exclusively on Netflix.
