BEVERLY HILLS — The 83rd Annual Golden Globe Awards, hosted by Nikki Glaser at The Beverly Hilton on January 11, 2026, saw two major features emerge as the night’s biggest victors. Warner Bros. Discovery’s “One Battle After Another” and Focus Features’ “Hamnet” took home the top prizes for Best Motion Picture in their respective categories.
“One Battle After Another” entered the evening as the leading contender with nine nominations. The contemporary action satire secured the prize for Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy, while Paul Thomas Anderson won for both Best Director and Best Screenplay. Additionally, Teyana Taylor earned the supporting actress trophy for her role in the film. During his acceptance speech, Anderson praised studio co-chair Mike De Luca for his “championing” of directors and creative freedom, noting that such leadership allowed for films like his to be made.
In the drama category, “Hamnet” was crowned Best Motion Picture – Drama. The film’s star, Jessie Buckley, won the award for best female actor. Director Chloé Zhao, joined on stage by producer Steven Spielberg, reflected on the film’s themes of vulnerability, quoting co-star Paul Mescal on the importance of artists allowing themselves to be seen as they truly are.
Both top-winning films explored the profound bond between parents and children: “One Battle” stars Leonardo DiCaprio as a father rescuing his daughter from a police state, while “Hamnet” dramatizes the grief of William Shakespeare (Mescal) and Agnes Hathaway (Buckley) following the death of their son.
The television categories were dominated by Netflix’s psychological thriller “Adolescence,” which “cleaned up” with four total awards. Other major television winners included HBO’s “The Pitt” and Apple TV+’s “The Studio,” which both took home best series prizes and acting awards for stars Noah Wyle and Seth Rogen, respectively.
Other notable film winners from the 2026 ceremony included:
- “Sinners”: Best original score and cinematic and box office achievement.
- “KPop Demon Hunters”: Best animated motion picture and original song for the hit “Golden”.
- “The Secret Agent”: Best non-English language motion picture and best actor in a drama for Wagner Moura.
The evening also honored two legendary actresses with lifetime achievement awards. Helen Mirren received the Cecil B. DeMille Award following a career that includes three previous Globe wins, while Sarah Jessica Parker was presented with the Carol Burnett Award following the series finale of “And Just Like That…”.
The ceremony was telecast live on CBS and streamed on Paramount+.
