
FTII Extends Deadline for Popular Film Appreciation Course in Pune

Pune/Mumbai, June 10, 2025 – The Film and Television Institute of India (FTII), operating under the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, has announced an extension for the application deadline of its highly sought-after Film Appreciation Course (Mid-Year 2025). The course, which is being held in Pune, is scheduled to run from June 23rd to July 11th, 2025.
The revised last date for submitting applications is now June 15th, 2025, by 6:00 PM IST. This extension was decided upon following overwhelming interest from film enthusiasts across India and aims to accommodate more aspiring participants who missed the initial deadline of June 7th.
Conducted jointly by FTII and the National Film Development Corporation – National Film Archive of India, this course is part of FTII’s broader outreach efforts to make film education more accessible across the country.

The programme is designed as an intensive, full-time course, offering a structured introduction to the aesthetics, history, and language of cinema. Sessions are held daily from 9:30 AM to 8:30 PM, excluding weekends.
The curriculum delves into cinema as both an art form and a communication medium, placing emphasis on both Indian and world cinema traditions. Participants will watch and analyze selected classic films from fiction, non-fiction, and documentary genres. A special aspect of the course is the opportunity to experience cinema in both 35mm and digital formats.

Lectures will be delivered by FTII’s core faculty and distinguished guest faculty, with guest interactions with noted filmmakers also forming an integral part of the experience. The course is targeted towards a diverse group including teachers, media professionals, researchers, film society members, government officials working in media, and motivated cinephiles from across India.
Applications are screened based on the applicant’s demonstrated interest and experience in cinema and media-related fields. While a limited number of hostel accommodations are available for outstation participants, priority for these is given to differently-abled and female candidates. Participants are generally expected to arrange their own travel, stay, and meals in Pune.
