Netflix is significantly expanding its footprint in children’s entertainment with the launch of Netflix Playground, a new dedicated app for games, alongside a slate of new preschool series and returning fan favorites. This move aims to create a curated, ad-free environment where children can engage with their favorite stories through both viewing and interactive play.

Interactive Play with “Netflix Playground”: The newly unveiled Netflix Playground app is designed specifically for children ages 8 and under. Included with all Netflix memberships, the app features no ads, in-app purchases, or extra fees. It is currently available in the United States, Canada, the UK, Australia, the Philippines, and New Zealand, with a global release scheduled for April 28.

The app offers an ever-growing library of games that are available offline, making them ideal for travel. Featured titles include:

  • Playtime With Peppa Pig: Activities such as making smoothies and driving the bus.
  • Sesame Street: Memory cards and connect-the-dots with Elmo and Cookie Monster.
  • Dr. Seuss Titles: Creative play environments featuring characters from Horton!, The Sneetches, and Red Fish, Blue Fish.
  • Storybots: Puzzles and sticker book scenes.

John Derderian, Netflix Vice President of Animation Series + Kids & Family TV, noted that the company is building a world where kids can “step inside” their favorite stories, creating a “seamless destination for discovery, learning, and play”.

New Series and Returning Favorites: Beyond the app, Netflix is bolstering its programming lineup. The service has announced the renewal of Trash Truck for a third season and additional episodes of The Creature Cases. A new musical series titled Young MacDonald will also debut, following the grandson of Old MacDonald as he learns about farm life and problem-solving.

The upcoming release schedule includes several high-profile titles:

  • April 13: My Sesame Street Friends: My Elmo.
  • April 20: CoComelon Lane (Season 7).
  • May 4: Dr. Seuss’s Horton! (Season 2).
  • May 11: Mark Rober’s CrunchLabs (Season 4).
  • May 23: Gabby’s Dollhouse: The Movie makes its Netflix US debut.
  • Summer 2026: New episodes of the beloved educator Ms. Rachel.

A Focus on Safety and Growth: This expansion comes as the kids’ genre has solidified its position as the #2 most-watched genre on Netflix. Between 2023 and 2025, six of the top 10 titles on the platform were from the kids’ category.

To support this growth, Netflix continues to highlight its robust parental controls, which allow families to customize maturity settings, use profile-lock PINs, and block specific titles to ensure an age-appropriate experience. By combining high-quality content with these safety tools, Netflix aims to provide parents with “peace of mind” while their children explore.
