Leadership Transition at BAFTA
The British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) has officially confirmed major appointments to its Board of Trustees, led by the elevation of Hilary Rosen to Chair of the Academy. Rosen takes on a three-year term, succeeding outgoing Chair Sara Putt.
Having served as Deputy Chair for the past year, Rosen assumes executive oversight of BAFTA’s core charitable objective: supporting, developing, and celebrating creative talent across the film, games, and television sectors worldwide.
Rosen will work alongside newly appointed Deputy Chairs Ade Rawcliffe and Andrew Miller MBE, who will each serve a two-year term on the executive board.
Hilary Rosen’s Industry Background and Governance Experience
Hilary Rosen brings extensive executive and creative experience to the chair position. Professionally, she serves as Director of Commissioning at UKTV, where she oversees the network’s slate of original scripted and unscripted programming.
Her governance tenure at BAFTA includes membership on the Television Committee since 2021, a body she subsequently chaired. In that capacity, she played a direct role in shaping the BAFTA Television Awards and TV Craft Awards while overseeing industry jury panels.

New Committee Chairs Appointed Across TV, Games, and Talent
Alongside Rosen’s appointment, BAFTA announced a suite of new Committee Chairs following an extensive election process. These committee leads serve as Trustees and steer key strategic functions of the organization:
- Games Committee Chair: Charu Desodt succeeds Tara Saunders. Desodt, a Studio Director with more than 25 years of industry experience at companies including Sony and Xbox, was a BAFTA Breakthrough recipient in 2014 and has served as a Games Award juror.
- Television Committee Chair: Caroline Levy replaces Rosen in this role. Levy is an established scripted producer with production credits across the BBC, Paramount, and independent production companies. She previously served as creative lead for International Horizons Scripted, a regional training initiative in Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland.
- Learning, Inclusion and Talent (LIT) Committee Chair: Nahrein Kemp takes over leadership of the LIT Committee. Kemp serves as ITV’s DEI and Talent Lead, managing the broadcaster’s 80 million pound Diversity Commissioning Fund and 1 million pound Diversity Development Fund. She also contributed to the landmark BAFTA Review 2020.
- Governance and Appointments Committee: Shrina Shah joins the BAFTA Board of Trustees as Chair of the Governance and Appointments Committee.
Official Statement from Chair Hilary Rosen
Reflecting on her appointment, BAFTA Chair Hilary Rosen emphasized the collaborative strength of the incoming leadership group:
“I have long been passionate about everything BAFTA does to promote the screen arts and champion talent across the screen industries, so it is a great privilege to take on the role of BAFTA Chair. I am delighted to be able to do this alongside our newly appointed committee chairs, Charu, Caroline and Nahrein and the rest of the BAFTA Board of Trustees. All are outstanding industry leaders and with the collective passion and insight we share I’m confident that this Board of Trustees will continue to build on the important and impactful work that has gone before.”
Strategic Mission and Sector Impact
As an independent arts charity, BAFTA operates year-round development programs, educational initiatives, masterclasses, bursaries, and international scholarship schemes alongside its flagship annual awards ceremonies. The incoming Board of Trustees will focus on expanding creative access, supporting early-career practitioners, and championing excellence across film, video games, and television.
