‘The Devil Wears Prada 2’ Struts to $233.6M Global Opening

High fashion met high returns this weekend as Disney’s The Devil Wears Prada 2 dominated the worldwide box office, claiming the number one spot with a massive $233.6 million debut. The sequel found a particularly stylish reception in international markets, where it earned $156.6 million across 52 territories, complemented by a solid $77 million domestic opening.

Trailing in the second position was the biopic Michael, which continues to show strong legs in its theatrical run. The film added $134.8 million globally this weekend, bringing its total worldwide cume to an impressive $423.9 million.

Meanwhile, The Super Mario Galaxy Movie held onto the third spot, nearing a major box office milestone. With $44.3 million earned over the weekend, the animated feature has now reached a global total of $894.2 million, making it a top contender for the billion-dollar club.

Other notable entries in the top ten include:

  • Cold War 1994: Debuted in international markets with $23.1 million.
  • Project Hail Mary: The Amazon MGM sci-fi hit continues its successful run, reaching a worldwide cume of $638.4 million.
  • Lee Cronin’s The Mummy: Secured the seventh spot, bringing its total earnings to over $80 million.
  • Hokum: The Neon release opened with $8.2 million globally.

The weekend’s (May 3, 2026) top ten – according to Comscore – was rounded out by the international release of Patriot ($6.9 million) and the Japanese animated hit Detective Conan: Fallen Angel of the Highway, which has now surpassed $61 million in total earnings.
