The Academy Recognizes Cinematic Innovation

The Academy is seeking submissions for the 2027 Scientific and Technical Awards to honor the essential “behind-the-scenes” contributions that advance the art and science of filmmaking. Eligible entries include a wide range of innovations, such as new devices, methods, formulas, discoveries, and inventions of outstanding value to moviemaking.

A committee comprised of distinguished engineers, scientists, and filmmakers will evaluate each submission to determine its impact on the industry.

The Selection and Investigation Process

Following the initial submission period, the Academy will announce a list of scientific and technical investigations in August. This stage allows individuals and companies with claims of innovation within those specific areas to submit additional entries for consideration.

The Scientific and Technical Awards Executive Committee will conduct thorough investigations into each technology category. In the fall, the committee will meet to vote on recommendations, which are then presented to the Academy’s Board of Governors for final award decisions.

Event Details and About the Academy

The cycle will culminate in the Scientific and Technical Awards Presentation, scheduled for April 2027. This event celebrates the global membership of the Academy, which includes over 11,000 accomplished film artists and leaders. Interested parties can find more information regarding submission rules and the application process through the Academy’s official portals.
