
Marvel Comics Appoints Stephen Wacker as Editor-in-Chief; C.B. Cebulski Transitions to Lead Marvel APAC
Marvel Comics has officially named veteran editor Stephen Wacker as its new Editor-in-Chief, succeeding C.B. Cebulski. While Wacker returns to lead the “House of Ideas” in New York, Cebulski will move to Japan to spearhead the company’s expansion into the Asian market as Editor, Asia Originals.

Marvel Comics announced a major leadership transition today, naming acclaimed editor and creative Stephen Wacker as its new Editor-in-Chief. Wacker, who previously spent over 15 years at Marvel, takes over the mantle from C.B. Cebulski. Cebulski is moving to Tokyo to assume the newly created role of Editor, Asia Originals, where he will oversee Marvel’s original graphic fiction and manga partnerships in the region.
Wacker’s appointment marks a high-profile return to the publisher where he previously served as a senior editor. During his prior tenure, he was responsible for overseeing some of the most influential modern comic runs, including the “Brand New Day” and “Superior Spider-Man” eras of Amazing Spider-Man.
Stephen Wacker returns to the House of Ideas, bringing over a decade of expertise to the Editor-in-Chief role.
His resume also includes the Eisner Award-winning Daredevil and Hawkeye series, the introduction of Kamala Khan as Ms. Marvel, and the fan-favorite It’s Jeff! Infinity Comic. Beyond print, Wacker has a robust background in Marvel’s television and digital media divisions, having served as a producer for animated hits like Avengers Assemble and the Wastelanders audio series.

C.B. Cebulski leaves the Editor-in-Chief role as the third-longest-tenured leader in Marvel’s nearly 90-year history. Since taking the position in 2017, Cebulski shepherded major creative initiatives such as the “Krakoan Age” of X-Men and the relaunch of the Ultimate Universe.

He was also instrumental in establishing the Marvel’s Stormbreakers talent program and fostering a comprehensive partnership with Shonen Jump. In his new role, Cebulski will focus on scouting local artists and developing regional content while remaining a key part of Wacker’s global leadership team.
Brad Winderbaum, Head of Marvel Television, Animation, Comics & Franchise, expressed confidence in Wacker’s ability to lead, describing him as a “passionate advocate for creators” who understands that the comics serve as the “source code” for the entire Marvel enterprise. Wacker described his return as a “full-circle moment,” stating his commitment to building upon the legacy of legends like Stan Lee and Jack Kirby to create the next generation of iconic stories.
