Netflix has officially unveiled the trailer for its latest Swedish crime thriller, Blood Sacrifice (Swedish title: Blodsoffer), which is set to debut globally on August 20, 2026. The five-part series is the latest project from creator and writer George Kay, known for his work on hits like Lupin and Hijack, and is directed by Kristoffer Nyholm, whose previous credits include The Killing and Taboo.
Set against the backdrop of a Stockholm summer where “darkness never really creeps in,” the story begins with a deceptive 911 call regarding a home invasion. When two officers investigate a summer house in the archipelago, they find no suspects, only to be discovered dead the following day. This brutal act sparks a terrifying series of murders specifically targeting the police force.
A Deadly Hunt: From the creator of Lupin comes a chilling new series where the hunters become the hunted on the streets of Stockholm.
The narrative centers on the lead investigator, Thomas, played by Jakob Oftebro (Hamilton). To solve the case, Thomas is forced to seek help from his estranged father, Alfred, a retired detective portrayed by Peter Andersson (The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo). The duo must navigate decades of mutual resentment and a complicated past to stop the killer before more lives are lost.
Oftebro described the series as an “intense, emotional journey,” noting that his character must confront both a brutal killer and a strained family dynamic. Andersson added that he was drawn to the project’s “powerful mix of crime thriller and family drama,” highlighting the personal connection he felt playing a detective since his own son serves as a police officer.
Family Ties: Justice meets domestic drama as an estranged father and son must bury the past to stop a killer targeting the police.
Produced by B-Reel Films and Observatory Pictures, the series features an ensemble cast including Electra Hallman, Alexander Abdallah, and Henrik Norlén. With its August release date fast approaching, Blood Sacrifice promises to be a standout addition to Netflix’s portfolio of high-stakes Nordic noir.
