The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has announced a major organizational shift, appointing Amy Homma as the Director and President of both the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures and the Academy Collection,. This elevation marks the first time the Academy has united all collections, conservation, preservation, and exhibition components under a single leadership role.

Homma will now oversee the Academy Collection, the world’s largest film-related archive, which houses more than 52 million items. Academy CEO Bill Kramer stated that bringing the museum and collections teams together is a “logical evolution” intended to expand the reach of these resources and enhance their use for research and scholarship. Homma will work alongside Executive Vice President Matt Severson to align these preservation efforts and make cinematic history more accessible to the public and future filmmakers.

  • Behind-the-scenes photographs from the set of Jaws (1975),.
  • The couture gown worn by Cicely Tyson to the 91st Oscars,.
  • Personal collections from influential figures such as filmmaker Allison Anders, producer Sherry Lansing, and documentary filmmaker Freida Lee Mock,.

In addition to physical artifacts, the Academy Film Archive added over 1,000 audio and visual elements over the past year, including casting session videos featuring actors such as Jennifer Lawrence and Andrew Garfield. The Academy also completed new 4K restorations of classic films, including One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest (1975) and Mysterious Skin (2004).

The Academy continues to promote global access to these materials through the Margaret Herrick Library, its online database, and international film screenings. Over the last year, nearly 800 objects from the collection were loaned to institutions worldwide, underscoring the Academy’s commitment to preserving and celebrating global film heritage.
