Cinema enthusiasts and industry analysts are turning their attention to the summer of 2026 as Christopher Nolan prepares to release his most ambitious project to date: The Odyssey. Produced by Syncopy and distributed globally, the film is scheduled to open in theaters everywhere on July 17, 2026.

A Mythic Action Epic in IMAX

Billed as a Mythic Action Epic, the film serves as a grand-scale reimagining of Homer’s foundational saga. In a move that continues Nolan’s commitment to large-format cinematography, The Odyssey was shot across the world using brand new IMAX film technology. This marks the first time this ancient Greek epic will be brought specifically to IMAX film screens, promising a visual experience of unprecedented scale.

A Powerhouse Ensemble Cast

The production has assembled one of the most star-studded casts in recent cinematic history. The film features a lineup of Academy Award winners and global box-office draws, including:

  • Matt Damon

  • Tom Holland

  • Anne Hathaway

  • Robert Pattinson

  • Lupita Nyong’o

  • Zendaya

  • Charlize Theron

Production and Creative Team

The project reunites Nolan with his long-time producing partner and wife, Emma Thomas, under their Syncopy banner. Thomas Hayslip serves as the executive producer. As with most of his high-concept works, Nolan has taken on the dual responsibility of both writing and directing the feature.
